What is a Keystone Jack? A keystone jack is a female connector used in data communications, particularly for local area networks LANS, usually mounted in a wall plate or Patch Panel. T568A and T568B are the two wiring standards for an 8P8C modular connector, RJ45 connector, permitted under the TIA/TIA-568A-A wiring standards color code schema. The only difference between T568A vs T568B is the oring and green wire pairs ( pair 2 & pair 3) are interchanged. Both T568A & T568B wiring schemas are labeled on the housing of keystone jack. The CAT5E and CAT6 wiring diagrams with corresponding colors are twisted in the network cabling and should remain twisted as much as possible when terminating them at a jack.
A principal advantage of keystone jack Connectors is their versatility. Various types of keystone jack can be mounted on a single patch panel. They are available in unshielded and shielded forms and can accommodate cords and cables having various numbers of conductors. Each keystone jack is slightly different in how they are labeled and how the colors are arranged.

How to punch down the keystone jack?
Step 1: Strip off the jacket about 2 ½” on your cable. Make sure not cut through the cable. if you do, you will need to start over.
Step two: Pull 4 pairs of cable back and cut off the rip cord and spline. ( the CAT5E cable has no an internal spline, but CAT6 and CAT6A will). Make sure no conductor nicks.
Step three: Orient the conductor 4 pairs so they line up with the T568A or T568B color code schema labeling the keystone jack,use the Punch down tool impacted, punch all eight wires fully into the IDC slots. The T568A and T568B are very similar, but T568B is most commonly used nowadays. Do not pull any part of cable jacket into the Keystone Jack housing, if you do, that will make proper temination difficult or impossible.
Step Four: the conductors should be fully seated in the IDC slots and flush cut off. Snap on the IDC cap and done. All ready to insert into a wall face plate, surface mount box or keystone jack patch panel.
